Kirk Salmon's Wife

Here is information on Kirk Salmon's wife if you hadn't heard. Please keep her and Kirk's family in your prayers. Kevin will be sending out an e-mail soon for those of you who would want to contribute anything.

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 01, 2009 – The Lynd Company announces the Fairways at Wilson Creek Benefit to be held on Sunday, August 23rd, 2pm at The Golf Club at McKinney. The benefit tournament is for Lynd employee Christy Salmon, who was involved in a head on car collision July 5th, 2009. Christy is currently in critical care at a Ft. Worth Hospital and is making daily progress. We are requesting your support to make this tournament a successful fund raiser for her family by donating a raffle item, hole prize, sponsorship or participation in the tournament.
Christy was on her way home from helping a friend move, when a driver lost control of his pickup , skidded across the median and struck her head-on on the driver’s side of her vehicle. The impact rolled the dash back into Christy, trapping her and cutting off her air supply. When the paramedics got the dash and the air bag off of her, they found a fractured femur & severed artery, fractured tibia, and a fractured arm, along with possible severe internal injuries. She had severe bleeding and was immediately airlifted to Hendrick Hospital in Abilene. Once she was stabilized, she was again airlifted to JPS Trauma Center ICU in Ft. Worth where she remains.
Christy is 33 years old and has been married to husband, Kirk for over 9 years. They have one son, Ryan, age 7. She is an amazing daughter, wife, and mother; to know her is to love her! Employed by the Lynd Corporation for just over a year, she loves her job and goes above and beyond to make us proud that she is a part of our team. Christy has always been the one willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and now that responsibility lies upon us. Christy needs your help. She is unable to work due to the extreme nature of her injuries, and mounting medical bills will soon take their toll. The driver that hit her only carried $50,000 liability, which was depleted before she left the scene of the accident. Two air flights, spending 3 weeks in ICU, and facing many months of therapy and rehabilitation will certainly be financially and emotionally overwhelming.

Thanks!

The Frenship class of 1989 20-year reunion is over and I sure wanted it to last longer! We had an awesome time and there just didn't seem to be enough time to talk to everyone long enough. I know the reunion committee will be meeting to discuss the weekend, but here are a few thank-you's I will send out now.

1. Thanks to Double Daves pizza for putting on an incredible buffet for us Friday night! They even had their staff stay and help us out, which isn't something they always do. The food was fantastic, I am sure you would agree. Thanks to those who helped us clean up that night (although I hear you weren't one of them, Pook? lol).

2. Thanks to Mr. Franklin and the other gentleman (I promise I will get his name on here as soon as I can) for the extensive tour of the school Saturday morning. I will say our little chunk of school is almost unrecognizable.

3. Thanks to Ricky Sanders and his wonderful wife for the best picnic!! We appreciate you opening your home up to us so much. There was swimming in a beautiful pool and volleyball for everyone to play. We all enjoyed ourselves. I think Jeff Mankins young son said it best when he said "When is the next reunion, Dad?"

4. Speaking of volleyball, I want to thank Kevin McCullough's team for not being too sad when my team (Randy Mandrell as coach! lol) beat you so bad. We felt so sorry for you we let you beat us two games after that. Thanks to the company Aleve for the relief we all need after several leaps and bounds from people that haven't done leaps since they were 16!

5. Thanks to Cagle Steaks for a great night with good food.

6. Thanks to all who donated door prizes: Lu Ann Jenkins Jordan, Tabatha Gilliam Moore, Blenda Thomas Wright, Brandon Morales, William Morgan, Joe Jackson, Karla Hoyle Brown, Jackie Bain Cantrell, Liz Greer Owens, Trish Arredondo Roberts, Mack Evans, Carol Dierks McCright. I apologize to Kevin Rennels who had something to donate but I didn't realize he had it with him. If I forgot anyone, please remind me!

7. Thanks to an awesome committee: Kevin McCullough, Karla Hoyle Brown, Trish Arredondo Roberts, Ricky Sanders, Yon Lee, Kenneth Roberts, Rene McCain Howell, Tabatha Gilliam Moore and Sharla Swinson Champagne. We all worked very hard but I want to especially thank Karla for the months of work you put into the slide show, picture boards, photo albums, copies of slide shows for everyone and more. The work you did really helped us all to stroll down memory lane.

8. Thanks to our classmates for coming and making it a great weekend we will never forget! Don't forget to go to the York photo website Kevin sent e-mails about to download your pictures to share.

Please leave comments about your thoughts on the weekend! There is talk of meeting around Homecoming for you Lubbock folks. Does anyone want to meet in 5 years?

This was sent to me from William Morgan through Trey Whitton. I don't know if any of you remember Mrs. Waldrep, but sadly she passed away last week. I had her for typing and she was a great teacher.

Frenship Today

Hello Frenship friends!

I was recently interviewed by "Frenship Today" and although I haven't personally seen the article yet, I have been told it was in their recent publication. They contacted me after finding our reunion blog. We are hopeful we can find more missing classmates because of the article. The website hasn't been updated, but you can look for the article on frenshiptoday.com under "where are they now". Under their archives you can also find articles on Randy Mandrell and Jeff Mankins!

William Morgan's Michael Jackson Story

I wanted to share something different with you this post. Our classmate, William Morgan, posted a very interesting story on his blog recently and with his permission, I am going to post it here:

"For this child of the 80s, Michael Jackson was the Thriller, not the freak show that emerged over the last few decades.

His sudden death yesterday brought to mind a personal encounter with the King of Pop.

Ye socks will have to flash back to the summer of 1991, when yours truly was interning with the Walt Disney World College Program and working at the Kodak camera shop on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom.

This was in the pre-digital era, so park goers would drop off their rolls of film to be developed, and I would hand them a little claim ticket with their name written on it.

Anyway, the encounter occurred one rainy afternoon about 3 o'clock. The daily parade was making its way down Main Street, which meant our store was completely empty of guests. That's when a figure clad in a yellow hooded rain slicker approached my counter to claim his photos, and the name on his claim ticket said "Michael Jackson."

I made some sort of remark at that, "Oh, like the Thriller?"

"JUST like that," he replied as he pulled the hood away from his face.

Yep, that's right. It was Jacko!

I didn't know what to do or say as he perused his snapshots. For once in my life, I was completely speechless.

Anyway, one of his "handlers" paid me for the photos, and he turned to go back to the parade with a wave of his (ungloved) hand and the admonition, "Have a magical day!"

When I looked down at the counter, Michael had left one of the photos. It was a shot of him with McCauley Culkin and Mickey Mouse, almost a foreshadowing of all the crap that would come in the not so distant future.

When I flipped over the picture, I saw MJ had autographed it for me as a memento of our brief encounter.

I ran across that photo last year while I was packing up to move from Apopka to College Park. So, I know it's around my house somewhere. I'm gonna have to do some searching for it over the weekend . . ."

Thanks, William! I just read on FB he found the picture and I am hoping he posts it soon.

Door Prizes

The reunion committee is hoping you can help out with door prizes. If there is anyone that has something they could donate for a prize, we would really appreciate it. Maybe you have something interesting from your work, or maybe the state you live in has something unique you could donate. Maybe you make something like pottery or sell things like Avon or Pampered Chef. If you think you have something that would help us in this department, please e-mail me (Lisa Johnson) and let us know.

Happy 2009...Happy 20 years!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday.

If you have e-mailed Trish or Kevin your contact information, thank-you! If you haven't, please do so, ASAP! Thanks!

Another person who would love to hear from you is Karla Hoyle-Brown. She is putting a slide show together for the reunion and needs you to e-mail her any pictures you have. She really wants as many classmates as she can on the slide show, so we need help from anyone that has pictures.

Oh, at my last count there are 59 classmates on Facebook so come get a page if you haven't already!

I know the committee will be meeting very soon and I will be posting new information as soon as they do. Until then...take care!
